AS Monaco did excellent business on Friday evening in the battle for second place and the corresponding ticket for the group stage of the Champions League. With Myron Boadu as a substitute in the second half, they won 1-2 against middle engine Lille OSC, where Sven Botman had a basic place. Monaco is in second place with 65 points from 36 matches. Number three Olympique Marseille has the same number of points, but still has a duel in the final phase of this season.
Alexander Nubel kept Monaco going in the twelfth minute. The goalkeeper made a very skilful save on a shot by Timothy Weah, who thought he could score on behalf of Lille. Aurélien Tchouaméni, later still so important, failed in minute 26 on behalf of the visitors with a header in a promising position. The midfielder’s effort disappeared next to the goal, to the relief of the home team. Three minutes before the halftime signal, Tchouaméni did a lot better. The controller handled a pass from Wissam Ben Yedder well and then blasted the ball into the bottom right corner: 0-1. A welcome lead for Monaco so close to half-time.
Two goals tonight, top quality again and pure leadership even if he’s 22. Aurélien Tchouaméni will be one of the best opportunity on the market. What a talent. † #TchouameniAS Monaco won’t accept less than €70m for Tchouaméni this summer. pic.twitter.com/vjn18b9sLR

Five minutes after the restart, Lille seemed to be level, but Jonathan Bamba’s blast was blocked in time by Monaco’s alert defence. In the 66th minute Boadu made his appearance as a substitute, replacing the tired Ben Yedder. Just three minutes later, Lille tied the score. Substitute Angel Gomes topped off an individual action with a beautiful goal. Nubel could not stop the attacking midfielder either. However, the final chord was for the visitors from Monaco, with the outstanding Tchouaméni again playing a leading role.
Caio Henrique managed to reach the defensive midfielder with fifteen minutes to play. The eight-time international of France then had a great shot in store, a blast that ended up in Lille’s goal through the post: 1-2. A few minutes later Kevin Volland was relieved at Monaco by Jean Lucas. Lille tried to avert the defeat in the final minutes. However, Bamba saw a shot from the edge of the box disappear over the crossbar. After four minutes of stoppage time, the final whistle sounded and the Monaco players could celebrate the important win over Lille.
