Bruno Guimarães will continue his career at Newcastle United, Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Saturday evening. The midfielder comes over from Olympique Lyon and has been linked to since Tuesday evening the Magpies. The transfer market expert reports that all papers have been signed and that the Brazilian has already passed the medical examination. Newcastle will pay a transfer fee of 40 million euros plus bonuses of up to 2 million euros. Guimarães is signing a contract until mid-2026.

The day before the announcement of Romano, there was talk of a fixed amount of 42 million euros plus 8 million euros in potential bonuses, but in the end Newcastle turns out to pay less. Sebastien Denis Foot Mercato reported that the bonuses are largely dependent on the team performance of Newcastle, which are said to only pay bonuses if the club maintains its position in the Premier League. Strikingly enough, Lyon labeled all the rumors surrounding Guimarães as last Wednesday evening fake news.

The defensive midfielder would have initially set his sights on a summer transfer: after all, he has enjoyed interest from Arsenal and Juventus for some time. Lyon would weigh up the proposal from England, as Guimarães is an important force for Bosz. The fact is that two years ago he was taken over for half, twenty million euros, from Athletico Paranaense from his homeland. The Brazilian club stipulated a resale percentage of twenty percent.

The wealthy Newcastle United due to the Saudi takeover has won Guimarães with an attractive contract. L’Equipe wrote earlier that he can earn an amount of 440,000 euros per month in Northeast England. That is double what the midfielder, good for 71 duels for Les Gones in all competitions, achieves in Lyon. Guimarães is the third reinforcement for Newcastle in this transfer window. Defender Kieran Trippier was bought from Atlético Madrid for fifteen million euros and striker Chris Wood was bought from Burnley for thirty million euros.
