Djed Spence makes the switch from Middlesbrough to Tottenham Hotspur, the club reports via official channels on Tuesday. Tottenham will reportedly initially transfer 14.5 million euros for the right-back. In the future, this amount could rise to 23.5 million euros. With the expenditure of the fixed transfer fee, the London club breaks the limit of 100 million euros in incoming summer transfers.

Spence recently played on loan at Nottingham Forest. The modern right-back managed to score 3 times in 46 official games for the club. He also provided five assists. Nottingham eventually promoted to the Premier League via the play-offs. Spence did not like a return to Middlesbrough, making this transfer perfect for the 21-year-old Englishman. At Tottenham, Spence will have to compete with Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty.

Spence says via the club website that he is very satisfied with his transfer. “It is a dream come true to play in the Premier League for a club like Tottenham. It’s great and I’m very grateful for that. Now it’s up to me to seize this opportunity. The fact that the club is playing the Champions League this year is a wonderful side effect. I can’t wait to get started.”

Spence is already the sixth summer signing for the busy Tottenham. The club attracted Fraser Forster and Ivan Perisic at the start of the transfer window. After that, 29 million euros was paid for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Yves Bissouma. The purchase of Richarlison was the most expensive: the Brazilian was taken over from Everton for no less than 58 million euros. Clément Lenglet was also hired from Barcelona at the beginning of this month. Tottenham start the season on Saturday, August 8 at 4 p.m. with a home game against Southampton.
