Derry John Murkin is in the interest of Feyenoord. That reports the usually well-entered 1908.nl. The left wing defender still plays for FC Volendam and has a contract there until mid-2023, but could therefore move to De Kuip this summer. The Rotterdammers are making ‘serious work’ of his arrival, it can be read.

Feyenoord will soon make a decision about the possible arrival of Murkin, writes 1908.nl. A decision will be made within 24 hours and it will have to be clear whether the English left back will move to De Kuip. Murkin is an old acquaintance of assistant coach Sipke Hulshoff, who worked with him at Volendam. Hulshoff is also the one who tipped his former pupil at Feyenoord and thinks he can compete for a place as a left wing defender in the team of head coach Arne Slot.

Murkin is of English descent, but has been playing for FC Volendam for more than seven years. There, the 22-year-old left leg made his debut in the first team in 2019 and has so far played 59 games in the Kitchen Champion Division. He scored nine times. The Other the Dutch picked Murkin away from Fortuna Wormerveer, a local amateur club, in 2015, and can therefore now receive a transfer fee for the Englishman. It is not clear what amount Feyenoord would have to think about to release him.

In South Rotterdam, Murkin can compete for a place as left back in Slot’s basic team. He has often said that he would like to add two more defenders to the selection who can play on the left, as Tyrell Malacia and Ramon Hendriks have left two options for that position. Earlier Ian Maatsen was also in the picture for one of the vacancies at left back, but the Chelsea defender himself decided not to make the switch to Feyenoord.
