Olympique Lyon sees Giovani Lo Celso as a suitable successor to Bruno Guimarães. Peter Bosz’s employer threatens to lose Guimares to Newcastle United and, according to L’Equipe agreement reached with Tottenham Hotspur on loan of Lo Celso. If the midfielder also agrees, he will be kept in France for the rest of the season. The lease does not include an option to purchase. Journalist Fabrizio Romano is sympathetic and indicates that Villarreal would also like to strengthen on a rental basis with Lo Celso.

Lo Celso played just nine games in the Premier League this season, partly due to injuries to his knee and shin. Seven of these involved raids. Lo Celso also made minutes in the EFL Cup, FA Cup and Conference League; for example, he took action in a European context in both meetings with Vitesse. Still, Tottenham is willing to cooperate with his departure. It is financially attractive to let Lo Celso go, because Lyon is willing to pay half his salary. Thus, both clubs will pay about half a million euros per month to Lo Celso. In addition, a rent is presumably paid.

Lyon needs a successor to Guimarães, who is on his way to Newcastle for a fixed fee of €42 million plus €8 million in potential bonuses. Those bonuses can only be cashed in in full if Newcastle maintain their position in the Premier League. if the Magpies relegated this season, the bonuses will not exceed four million euros. If Newcastle maintains, a million euros in bonuses can be cashed in per season for the next four years, if Newcastle remain in the Premier League. That claim is in any case made by journalist Sébastien Denis van Foot Mercato.

The floor now belongs to Lo Celso, who has a contract in London until mid-2025. If he leaves, he probably won’t be the only Tottenham player to find another club this month. The Spurs are in talks with Valencia about hiring Bryan Gil; Valencia wants to pay his full salary until the end of the season. According to journalist Romano, Tottenham is also working on outgoing transfers for Tanguy Ndombele or Dele Alli, in order to pay for the arrival of a new midfielder. That new midfielder is called Sofyan Amrabat. Tottenham want to hire the former FC Utrecht and Feyenoord midfielder from Fiorentina for the rest of the season, with an option to buy for sixteen million euros. Amrabat himself has also set his sights on a move to London.
