The Netflix series Soy Georgina premiered on Thursday. In the reality show of Georgina Rodríguez, the viewer is taken into the life of the model and her boyfriend: Cristiano Ronaldo. So the six-part series was launched on January 27, the day gio 28 birthday candles. The promotion of the launch was tackled in a big way: projected on the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, some images showed off as the starting signal for the Spanish-language show. In addition to her love for fashion, glamour, travel and luxury, Georgina tells in detail about her relationship with Ronaldo and how meeting the Portuguese superstar completely changed her life. While fans have been eagerly awaiting its release, the series, and in particular its announcement, has also attracted much criticism for Georgina.

Meeting with Ronaldo
“It was on a summer Thursday in 2016,” Georgina typically kicks off her series to reveal in detail the meeting with Ronaldo. “I worked at Gucci (in Madrid, ed.). I had to be out the door at 5pm and a colleague called me and asked if I could stay another half hour to help a customer. As I left the store, I encountered a handsome man, nearly six feet tall, accompanied by a child and a group of friends. Extremely handsome. The boy greeted me very politely and smiled. I felt butterflies in my stomach. I thought, what is wrong with me? I didn’t even want to look at Cristiano, because I was ashamed.” Ronaldo also remembers the moment: “It was a sudden click and she got stuck in my head, really.”

“From that moment on, he came to see me more often at Gucci and one day he wrote me that he had an event,” Georgina continues. “He asked me if I wanted to be there. I spent all day thinking about what I would wear, how I would do my hair, etc. When I arrived he looked extremely good. I remember exactly what we were wearing. We toasted with a glass of champagne, but moments later I had to leave the event for a company dinner. I didn’t feel like it, but I had to go. But it was good for us, because it made the desire for each other even greater,” says Georgina.

Despite the ‘chemistry’ between the duo, it looked like a relationship would not work for two months. “He had a lot of games, my father passed away and I was absent and sad. Then suddenly I met him again at another event, where he was with his friends and his brother. There he said to me: ‘Gio, would you like to have something to eat together, because it’s about time now.’ I was very embarrassed and on the way to the restaurant our hands collided. I felt that those hands belonged to me. When our hands touched again, we held each other… They were familiar hands, perfectly fitting. We went to dinner, and later I went home with a pounding heart… boom boom.” Ronaldo: “When we held hands it was a unique moment… She was a super interesting, mature girl and I started to get ‘addicted’ to her.”

The spark finally flew when Georgina unannounced visited a Ronaldo match at Real Madrid. “I longed to see him and be with him, but I didn’t want to text him. He wrote to me after the game and asked what I was doing. I told him that I was at home and that I was going to sleep. He said to me, ‘Would you like to eat?’ And I said, “Okay.” I had already eaten, but good. I left happy with my backpack and he came to pick me up at home. We arrived at his place and he had already prepared the food. I ate like a queen. After that, we met more and more often and he picked me up from work in a Bugatti, much to the surprise of my colleagues.”

Impact football on family life
In Soy Georgina The impact of Ronaldo’s disciplined life on the family is also depicted. Holidays with the family normally take no more than ten days a year, lost games have a big impact on the mood of the family and Ronaldo’s transfer from Juventus to Manchester United is also bringing some changes. At the European Championship 2020, Portugal was eliminated by Belgium in the eighth final (1-0) after a direct hit by Thorgan Hazard. Cristiano Ronaldo Júnior, Ronaldo’s eldest son who currently plays in United’s youth academy, burst into tears in the stands after the elimination. The defeat was great, but there was not much time to cry out Cristianito.

“We have to be big and strong for daddy,” Georgina told him in the series. “We must be there for him when he comes home and we must not be sad. Staying positive so Dad doesn’t have to be disappointed either.” His son’s passion and emotion moves Ronaldo, who sees a great future for his son. “I recognize a lot of him in myself. He really experiences and feels football the way I do. That makes me very proud. I would love it if he turns pro. He definitely has the qualities and I don’t want him to waste them. Cristianito bursting with talent.”

Ronaldo also speaks nice words about his partner, with whom he runs various companies and hotels. “Gio is not only an excellent mother. She has many more qualities that others do not know. She helps me a lot in many ways. She is a hardworking girl with many ideas of her own. Also for my companies and hotels. she has feeling and I take her opinion very seriously,” said the Portuguese, who is also speaking out about the near future. “Only God knows where the future lies. Anyway, I’m calm about it. Whether I stay or leave, everything will be a new stage in Cristiano’s life. In football, the situation changes in the blink of an eye, and you have to be prepared for every possible challenge. In any case, this will be a chapter that people will enjoy. Football, my goals…”

The series and criticism
In the reality show, Georgina shows her daily life. In particular, the access to Ronaldo’s boat and private jet means that she can make many trips, with and without the children. She discusses her roots, friendships, love of fashion and returns to the place where she grew up. After she was born in Buenos Aires, Georgina left for Murcia with her Spanish mother, before ending up in Jaca. Father Jorge, Argentinian, stayed behind in the hometown of gio. In 2016, Georgina moved to Madrid, where she ended up working in various fashion stores before meeting Ronaldo. She has one child with her boyfriend, while Ronaldo already had three children of his own. The couple is currently expecting twins.

In the run-up to the release of the Netflix show, every effort has been made to generate exposure. The marketing campaign earned Georgina not only positive reviews. In particular, a large banner in one of the main streets of Madrid caused a lot of polemica, discussion, on social media. “I used to sell bags in Serrano (an exclusive shopping street in Madrid, ed.), now I save them”, can be read in capital letters, to the annoyance of many Twitter users. “I think it’s pathetic,” “I think it’s very distasteful” and “it’s an insult and contempt for the working class and a clearly obscene example of social stratification” are much-liked comments under a banner photo.

Last week also provided The Sun for uproar with fierce reactions from several of Georgina’s relatives. The English tabloid is said to have contacted the lead actress’s family seeking reactions to the show, but the feedback was mostly negative. Jesús Hernández, the uncle who claims to have raised Georgina when her father was in prison for drug trafficking, uses the words “evil” and “shameless” among other things when he speaks of his niece. “I raised her, but she’s forgotten about me since Cristiano,” said Hernández, who is supported by Georgina’s half-sister, Patrícia. “I asked her for a signed Ronaldo shirt for my son’s birthday, but I wasn’t allowed to disturb her because she was on vacation.”
