West Ham United have pushed Everton deeper into worries. The Toffees went on Sunday afternoon without Donny van de Beek – who had to drop out injured in the warm-up – to visit the current number five in the Premier League with 2-1. Everton thus remains one place above the danger zone, with a three point lead over Watford.

Everton seemed to take the lead in East London after almost half an hour of play. However, with the goal in sight, Richarlison was stopped at the very last minute by right-back Ryan Fredericks. Just three minutes later, it was West Ham that broke the spell. Aaron Cresswell left goalkeeper Jordan Pickford without a chance with a beautiful free kick from about 25 meters away. A tiny lead for West Ham halfway through, a lead that disappeared from the scoreboard eight minutes after the break. On a pass from Richarlison and a deflected shot, Mason Holgate made it 1-1 for Everton.

However, the good feeling soon disappeared at Everton. Five minutes after the equalizer, Pickford saved on a bet by Michael Antonio. In the rebound, the alert Jarrod Bowen restored West Ham’s lead at home. Things got even more problematic for Everton midway through the second half. Defender Michael Keane was sent in with a second yellow card after a reckless and hard tackle on Antonio. With ten men Everton no longer managed to equalize.
