Napoli booked an important victory in the battle for the Italian title on Sunday afternoon. The team of coach Luciano Spalletti recorded a 1-3 win over Atalanta, for whom Marten de Roon provided the only goal. Napoli is equal with leader AC Milan due to the victory in points, although they have i Rossoneric played one game less. Atalanta remains the number seven in Serie A for the time being due to the defeat.

In the run-up to the meeting with Atalanta, Napoli faced the necessary personnel problems, because Victor Osimhen, Amir Rrahmani and Giovanni Di Lorenzo were not present for various reasons. Marten de Roon, Hans Hateboer and Teun Koopmeiners kicked off at Atalanta. The duel in the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia was broken open after fifteen minutes. After interference from the video referee, the ball hit the dot after goalkeeper Juan Musso’s foul on Dries Mertens.

Musso did indeed go in the right direction with Lorenzo Insigne’s penalty, but did not get his fingers behind the ball. Even before halftime, Napoli doubled the margin. With 37 minutes on the clock, Insigne took a free kick halfway through the half of Atalanta very cleverly. Matteo Politano ran free after a good run, received the ball and was able to work the second Neapolitan goal of the afternoon against the ropes from close range.

Atalanta managed to get back into the game early in the second half. Aleksey Miranchuk found De Roon with a measured cross, after which the Dutch midfielder headed against the right corner in the right corner. Atalanta, however, did not manage to clear the deficit that had fallen in the first half and saw Napoli decide the game ten minutes before the end. Substitute Hirving Lozano served Eljif Elmas, who determined the final score at 1-3.
