Amadou Onana will play for Everton for the next five seasons, so make it the Toffees announced on Tuesday afternoon through the official channels. The English club transfers no less than 36 million euros to LOSC Lille for the Belgian midfielder, who turns 21 in a week. Onana made his debut for Belgium in June against the Dutch national team (1-4 defeat).

Onana says via the club website that she is overjoyed with the transfer. “It feels good to be part of Everton. It’s a very big club in England, something I’ve dreamed of for many years. The club has shown that they really wanted me and that’s why I made the move.” Onana is looking forward to playing under manager Frank Lampard. “His presence made the choice for Everton even easier for me.”

The tall Onana is only the fifth incoming summer transfer for Everton, which previously mainly strengthened itself in the defense. Conor Coady (Wolverhampton Wanderers and Rúben Vinangre (Sporting)) were hired, while James Tarkowski came over from Burnley on a free transfer. Everton also took over winger Dwight McNeil from the latter club. McNeil transferred to Goodison Park for more than twenty million euros.

Onana played in the youth of Zulte Waregem and Hoffenheim before moving to Hamburger SV. In Germany he made his debut as a professional footballer. After one season in Hamburg, Onana stood out to the scouts of Lille, after which he made the switch to Ligue 1 for almost thirteen million euros in 2021. For Lille, Onana made 41 official appearances last season, scoring three goals and providing one assist. Now Onana thought it was time for the next step at Everton after just one year in France.
