A possible rental transfer from Donny van de Beek to Crystal Palace can partly be attributed to Dennis Bergkamp. Sky Sports know the Arsenal legend has reached out to Palace to personally recommend his son-in-law. Bergkamp played at Arsenal for a long time with Patrick Vieira, the current manager of the Eagles.

If the transfer from Van de Beek to Crystal Palace is actually finalized, Bergkamp has played an important part in it. The former attacker reportedly contacted Vieira personally to recommend his son-in-law. Bergkamp is said to have tried to convince Palace’s policymakers of the midfielder’s qualities. Presumably, after the contact between Bergkamp and Vieira, things started rolling at Selhurst Park. Vieira would be happy with his current squad, but believes Van de Beek could be a valuable addition.

Van de Beek is struggling for a place in the starting lineup at United. Since his arrival from Ajax, he has been ignored by successively Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Michael Carrick and Ralf Rangnick. To date, Van de Beek has only started four times in a game in the Premier League. In total, his counter stands at 27 Premier League matches. After only 380 minutes into the current season, he would like to look elsewhere. United will in any case not cooperate with an option to purchase in a possible rental contract. The club wants to ensure that it will have Van de Beek in the 2022/23 season.

Rangnick wants Van de Beek to finish the season at Manchester United. “I had a conversation with him two weeks ago and told him that I would advise him to stay until the end of the season,” Rangnick said. “Van de Beek wants to go to the World Cup and Louis van Gaal has told him that he has to play regularly. I understand that, but we have a lot of competition in the team.” Rangnick also has a choice of Bruno Fernandes, Scott McTominay, Fred, Nemanja Matic and Jesse Lingard in midfield. Paul Pogba is currently recovering from a debilitating hamstring injury.
