Ron Jans will also be the trainer of FC Twente next season, the club announced on Friday through the official channels. Technical director Jan Streuer has also extended his contract for a year. The duo’s new alliance was not without a struggle. Due to the early departure of general manager Jan-Willem Brüggenwirth, talks were held with interim general manager Paul van der Kraan, who, according to RTV East is not particularly charmed by Jans.

Reporter Tijmen van Wissing van RTV East called Jans’ contract extension at the end of November ‘no certainty’. The journalist knows that the new director, who is the temporary successor of the early departed Brüggenwirth, is not charmed by Jans. Streuer, meanwhile, insisted on Jans staying longer and would also close the door of the Grolsch Veste behind him if Jans left. Those speculations have now come to an end with a new one-year contract for the pair.

“It is great to continue the work at FC Twente with Jan,” Jans says on the club site. “If you look at where we were a year and a half ago and now, we have made great strides. We wanted to offer the club perspective again and we have succeeded so far. This season we have more experience in the selection and you can see the growth of the team. Of course there is still a lot that can be done better, but we are also working on that. There are still some great challenges ahead of us this season.”

Streuer is also happy with the new contract. “I am enjoying myself at FC Twente,” says the technical man. “When I returned to FC Twente a year and a half ago, it was not expected to stay that long, but I am already entering my third season. I enjoy working with the players and the staff and the people of the club. Also this season we are showing ourselves in the Eredivisie and Ron and his staff deserve a big compliment for that. We want to continue to improve our organization and raise the bar there too It is good that there is now clarity towards next year.”

Jans had an excellent start with FC Twente last season, but completely collapsed with his team after the winter break. In the end, Twente finished tenth. The game is also changeable this season, although the Tukkers do occupy a respectable fourth place in the ranking. Twente assured itself of a cartload of experience last summer with the arrival of Lars Unnerstall, Robin Pröpper, Ricky van Wolfswinkel and Virgil Misidjan. According to Jans, the lack of experience was at the root of the slump after the winter break last year.
