Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could finish the season at Barcelona or Juventus. Both clubs have submitted an official rental proposal to Arsenal, reports The Athletic. The negotiations will mainly focus on the sky-high salary of the 32-year-old striker, who earns no less than 420,000 euros a week from Arsenal.

For Barcelona, Aubameyang’s mega salary will probably be the biggest stumbling block. The possibilities of the Catalans are known to be limited by the salary cap imposed by LaLiga. Barca have had to do all the necessary tricks to sign Ferran Torres and Dani Alves and can probably only pay for part of Aubameyang’s salary. That makes it less interesting for Arsenal to do business with los Azulgranas.

Alvaro Morata could play a key role in Aubameyang’s possible departure from Arsenal. Morata, who has been hired by Juventus from Atlético Madrid, has set his sights on a transfer to Barcelona. The transfer is complicated, as Atlético are not keen to cooperate in a move from Morata to a domestic competitor. If the transfer does come, then Aubameyang could become the direct successor of Morata at Juventus.

Aubameyang was again disciplined by Mikel Arteta on December 6 and has since been out of Arsenal’s squad. The attacker, who is the highest-paid player in the club with a salary of more than twenty million euros, can therefore look for a new employer. Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr were serious in the market and wanted to hire Aubameyang with an option to buy, but the 72-time international is determined to prove himself at the very highest level one more time. The Saudi Arabian proposals were therefore brushed aside.
