Kevin Strootman could return to the Dutch fields next summer. The 33-year-old midfielder, who won promotion to Serie A with Genoa this season, is out of contract and late in talks with Football International know to be ready for another nice step. A transfer to the Eredivisie is one of the possibilities.

Strootman is under contract with Olympique Marseille and that club rented him out to Genoa this season. The inspector liked that, because he is employed by il Grifone he came to 31 official games and two goals. Genoa finished second in Serie B under coach Alberto Gilardino and that was good enough for promotion. Whether Strootman will be active with the Italians at the highest level next season, however, remains to be seen. The club wants to, but the midfielder has not yet made the decision.

In conversation with VI says the 46-time international of the Dutch that he has several irons in the fire. “I am a free man this summer. So last year I hesitated to stop, but I think very differently now. I had a good year at Genoa, played a lot, stayed fit. My feeling and perspective are therefore very different from a year ago. I think I can still make a good step.”

In the Netherlands, Strootman played for Sparta Rotterdam, FC Utrecht and PSV. A return to the Eredivisie is one of the possibilities for the inspector from Ridderkerk, who was last active on the Dutch fields in 2013 and left PSV for AS Roma in the summer of that year. “It could be Serie A or another foreign competition. I don’t exclude the Netherlands either. It depends on many factors: my family, but also which club is interested.”
