Nathaniel Clyne returns to Crystal Palace, the Premier League club announced through official channels. The 29-year-old fullback was trained by the Eagles and left for Southampton eight years ago. Clyne was most recently active at Liverpool, where his contract expired last summer.

This allows Clyne to return to Selhurst Park on a free transfer. Crystal Palace announces that he is a so-called short-term deal has signed. “I am a boy from London, this is where I grew up. This feels like coming home, my family and friends live here. It’s surreal to be back, I hope I can find the joy in football, ”Clyne said on the Crystal Palace website.

“Nathaniel is a fantastic personality to have in this squad, we are very happy to have signed him for the coming period. He’s a true professional and hasn’t changed from our first meeting ten years ago, ”said Steve Parish, Chairman of Crystal Palace. Clyne played in the youth academy of the Eagles and made his debut in the main force in 2008. After a total of 137 appearances for Crystal Palace, Southampton took him away from London in 2012.

After three years at Southampton, Liverpool paid 17.7 million euros for Clyne. The fourteen-time England international was a basic player in his first two seasons the Reds, but disappeared from manager Jürgen Klopp’s first eleven due to a lingering back injury. Partly due to the breakthrough of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Clyne was no longer involved in recent times and after playing on loan for Bournemouth for another six months, he left Liverpool behind last summer. In his last contract year, Clyne didn’t play a minute at Anfield.
