Frank de Boer has announced the line-up of the Dutch national team for Wednesday evening’s away game against Italy. The national coach does not award Steven Berghuis a base spot for the third game in a row; the vanguard is surprisingly formed by Mephis Depay and Luuk de Jong. De Boer opts for a 5-3-2 system, while he played 4-3-3 in the previous two international matches.

De Boer can again appeal to Depay, who was not suspended against Bosnia-Herzegovina on Sunday evening (0-0). The star player of Olympique Lyon starts with Luuk de Jong at the point of the attack. Because there is no playing with wingers, Donyell Malen and Quincy Promes lose their starting spot.

Orange has to do without the suspended De Roon. The midfielder of Atalanta hoped to be able to play for Orange in the stadium of his own club, but ran into a yellow card against Bosnia-Herzegovina and left the training camp prematurely. Due to the loss of De Roon, Donny van de Beek has a basic place in midfield. Georginio Wijnaldum and Frenkie de Jong will keep their place.

In the rear, De Boer plays with five men. Although the national coach was satisfied with the threat from Denzel Dumfries on the right flank, this time he opts for Hans Hateboer as right back. The rest of the defense consists of Stefan de Vrij, Virgil van Dijk, Nathan Aké and Daley Blind. The goal is defended by Jasper Cillessen. The game in the group stage of the Nations League starts at 8.45 p.m. in Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia. The Orange hopes to avoid a negative record: for the first time in its 115-year history, the national team can remain dry for four games in a row.

Line-up Orange: Cillessen; Hateboer, De Vrij, Van Dijk, Aké, Blind; Van de Beek, F. De Jong and Wijnaldum; L. De Jong, Depay

Lineup Italy: Donnarumma; D’Ambrosio, Bonucci, Chiellini, Spinazzola; Barella, Jorginho, Verratti; Chiesa, Immobile, Pellegrini
