Marciano Vink states that Ibrahim Sangaré is currently more valuable to PSV than Cody Gakpo. Prior to the return against AS Monaco in the third qualifying round of the Champions League, the analyst of ESPN that the ‘balance in midfield’ is crucial for ‘this PSV’. Kenneth Perez frowns and thinks that Gakpo is more important to Ruud van Nistelrooij’s team.

“Who is the most important player for PSV at the moment? If I have to choose between Gakpo and Sangaré? Well, it sounds very strange and of course we wouldn’t have thought that a year and a half ago…”, says Vink, when Perez interrupts him: “You’re not going to say Sangaré, are you?” Vink believes that Sangaré is even more valuable to PSV than Gakpo. “I think that Sangaré, with the rear guard as it stands now, is a resting point. It’s nice that he relieves the defense a little more.”

“Look, they have bought goals with Luuk de Jong, Madueke and Guus Til,” continues Vink. “I hope not, but suppose Gakpo is no longer there, then you have a certain guarantee of goals. I think the balance in midfield is important, especially given Sangaré’s current form. I just think he’s a more important pawn than Gakpo at the moment.”

Perez does not agree with his colleague’s words. “It’s weird because it’s much harder to buy in goals than to buy someone in for the balance. I would always choose goals rather than anything else. I really don’t agree with you. To be fair: Sangaré has gone through a good development. When he came he was just doing something and he was a risk, but by training on kick technique and passing, the combination with his physical strength has become interesting.”
