The transfer of Timo Werner to RB Leipzig has been completed, the club announces through the official channels. The 26-year-old striker has been taken over from Chelsea for an amount of around twenty million euros plus bonuses and has signed a five-year contract in Leipzig. With this, Werner returns to the club after two years, which he left for 53 million euros.

The attacker says through the club channels that he is very pleased with his return to those Roten Bullen. “I had a great time here between 2016 and 2020, when we performed very well as newcomers to the Bundesliga. I left with a good feeling then, but that period belongs to the past and now I want to look ahead. A lot of things have changed in two years.”

“I’ve had two great years at Chelsea for which I am very grateful,” Werner continued. “In addition, I was able to conquer the Champions League. The experience of playing in a new competition abroad has really helped me and my career. Now I’m looking forward to the new season at RB Leipzig and especially looking forward to meeting the Leipzig fans again. They mean a lot to me. We want to achieve a lot and of course I want to become the first Leipzig player to score 100 goals,” said the striker, whose tally at Leipzig currently stands at 95 goals in all competitions.

Werner’s adventure at Chelsea was not an unqualified success. In his last season in Leipzig, Werner scored 28 goals in the Bundesliga, but he has never reached that number in England. In the end, he scored ten Premier League goals in 56 games. As an attacker of the Blues Werner seized the Champions League in 2021, while taking the European Super Cup the same year and winning the Club World Cup earlier this year.
