There has been tension between RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich over the transfer of Konrad Laimer for weeks, but on Saturday evening the German superpowers are finally fighting it out on the field again. Julian Nagelsmann and Bayern visit his old club in the DFL Supercup game. Will cup winner Leipzig be able to stunt and will the club win the German Supercup for the first time in history, or will Ryan Gravenberch and Noussair Mazraoui immediately take a prize with their new club? In collaboration with Unibet, Voetbalzone looks ahead to the match for the German Supercup.

Leipzig has had a fairly quiet transfer period so far. Those Roten Bullen managed to strengthen themselves with Xaver Schlager who came over from VfL Wolfsburg for twelve million euros. Furthermore, the club took over keeper Janis Blaswich transfer-free from Heracles Almelo. Leipzig did see a number of players leave, including Brian Brobbey who returned to Ajax for no less than 16.35 million euros. Tyler Adams left for Leeds United for twenty million euros, while Nordi Mukiele was sold to Paris Saint-Germain for twelve million euros. Leipzig played only two exhibition games in preparation. The Germans won 3-1 against Southampton, but were beaten 0-5 by Liverpool a few days later.

Bayern was a lot more active in the transfer market. Der Rekordmeister managed to get two absolute top purchases to Munich with Matthijs de Ligt (Juventus) and Sadio Mané. In addition, the club strengthened itself with Noussair Mazraoui and Ryan Gravenberch, who both came over from Ajax. Finally, Bayern bought 17-year-old French super talent Mathys Tel from Stade Rennes. On the other hand, the departure of goal machine Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona. The Pole scored no fewer than 344 goals for Bayern in eight years. The Bavarian club also played two exhibition games in preparation. Bayern won 2-6 against American DC United, but lost a game against superpower Manchester City 0-1.

After Lewandowski’s departure, Bayern have not yet attracted a super striker. Tel seems to be more of a player for the future. It looks like the goals will have to come from the flanks at Bayern this year and Mane has shown great scoring ability at Liverpool over several seasons. Last season, Mane scored no fewer than sixteen times in the Premier League. At Leipzig, it is hoped that André Silva will really use his full potential this season. In his first season with the club, Silva managed to find the net 17 times in 50 games. A year earlier at Eintracht Frankfurt, Silva had scored 28 times in the Bundesliga alone.
