Phillipp Mwene wants to win prizes with PSV this season. The right back, who came over from FSV Mainz 05 on a free transfer in the summer, showed himself in the final weeks of the first half of the season with goals against FC Utrecht (4-1 win), RKC Waalwijk (1-4 win) and Go Ahead Eagles (2- 0 win). He is in an interview with kicker He is pleased with his personal development and the progress of PSV, which is at the top of the Eredivisie.

The leader has a lead of one point on Ajax. “Ajax has the best team in the league at an individual level,” says Mwene. “In recent years, Ajax has already proven to be one of the best clubs in Europe. Nevertheless, I believe in our qualities and we can also beat Ajax. We proved that at the start of the season in the battle for the Supercup (0- 4 win, ed.). We have confidence in ourselves and realize that we have to perform stable to stay ahead of Ajax. We will play against them soon (on Sunday, January 23, ed.). I don’t know if that match will be decisive, but It’s going to be a very important game.”

Mwene also sees Feyenoord, which is four points behind, as a title candidate. “Feyenoord certainly still has a chance. They have a good team and have also demonstrated a lot of quality in the Conference League. We lost 0-4 to them, which proves that they can play at the top. But we are now first. , so you have to pass us first,” he says confidently. 27-year-old Mwene played three seasons in the Bundesliga with Mainz and is asked about the differences between the Dutch and German league. “The top ten clubs in the Netherlands can certainly participate in the Bundesliga,” he says.

“Every game against one of those teams is tough. After that there is a big gap,” adds Mwene. “But we have a different goal with this club than with Mainz. We want to win every game, become champions, get as far as possible in Europe and win the cup. That involves a different kind of pressure. You need a lot of football quality for that and we have that. We would be in the top three in Germany. PSV is a big club in the Netherlands, so it was an honor that the club came to me.”

Mwene signed a contract in Eindhoven until mid-2024. He has ‘not really’ the desire to make another transfer. “I just want to achieve as much success as possible at this club. If that works, every player could make a transfer to a bigger club. But I’m not thinking about that at the moment,” the Austrian explains. “I’ve only been playing here for six months and I’ve already played a lot of games. It feels like I’ve been here for two years. I have clear goals here: to win trophies. I’m happy with our first place in the ranking, I don’t have the goal to to play for another club.”
