The search for a new national team coach for Poland continues. Last week, the national football association announced the departure of Paulo Sousa, after which Adam Nawalka was most often named as his successor. He was already the national coach of Poland between 2013 and 2018 and is currently unemployed. According to the Polish Sportowych Faktow Andrea Pirlo and Dick Advocaat, among others, are also interested in the vacancy.

Pirlo, unemployed since leaving Juventus in May last year, has even had a meeting with a representative of Poland’s national team, according to journalist Piotr Kozminski. He worked at Juventus with Wojciech Szczesny, the goalkeeper and one of the most famous players of the national team. However, 42-year-old Pirlo has little experience as a manager and finished fourth last year with Juventus, the club’s worst ranking in ten years.

The name of compatriot Fabio Cannavaro, who was still working as the national coach of China in 2019, is also mentioned. Furthermore, the names of Advocaat, who recently resigned as national coach of Iraq, former Chelsea coach Avram Grant and the unemployed Ante Cacic. In Poland, it is expected that there will be clarity about the new national coach within two and a half weeks.

Sousa suddenly left for Flamengo in the Brazilian Série A last month, to the dismay of the national federation of Poland. He and his team finished second behind England in the World Cup qualifying group. Due to a 1-2 defeat against Hungary, Poland had no seeded status in the draw for the play-offs. Robert Lewandowski and his associates have to deal with Russia in March and then with Sweden or the Czech Republic to reach the World Cup. In the group stage of the Nations League, Poland will play against the Netherlands later this year, the draw showed last month.
