The regular season in the Eredivisie is over. Feyenoord are champions, PSV has secured a place in the preliminary round of the Champions League and it was a disappointing year for Ajax in particular. Football zone has always put together a Team of the Week in recent weeks and is now looking for the Team of the Year. Vote for the player you thought was the best this season in today’s search for the best left centre-back.

Football zone is looking for eleven players and a trainer for the Team of the Year. Your help is needed for this, because the vote of the community largely determines the outcome. There are five nominations for each position, which can be voted on. To be eligible for a nomination, a player must have played at least nineteen full games (1710 playing minutes). You can vote in the poll at the bottom of this article and under our post on Instagram. The percentage of votes is the number of points the player gets from the audience. The editors also vote, and the percentage that rolls out is the number of points that are added to the public points. This then yields a total score. So your vote counts for fifty percent!

Shawn Adewoye (RKC Waalwijk)
One of the discoveries of this Eredivisie season was Shawn Adewoye. The 22-year-old Belgian from RKC Waalwijk played silently in the base under Joseph Oosting and eventually kicked off in 30 of the 34 league matches. His strength and fierceness helped him to knock many strikers out of the match and partly because of this, RKC participated until the last match day for a ticket for the play-offs for European football. The Waalwijkers took over Adewoye from Genk in January 2021 and, now that the mandekker still has a contract for one season, can benefit financially from it.

Pawel Bochniewicz (sc Heerenveen)
If you are associated with a place in the Polish World Cup selection after fourteen games in the Eredivisie and eventually find yourself in the play-offs for European football with your club after 34 games, you have done well. Pawel Bochniewicz played 33 games this season in the defense of sc Heerenveen, who could be called very strong before Andries Noppert’s injury, and also wore the captain’s armband sixteen times at the end of the season. Bochniewicz, number nine on that list with fifty successful interceptions, is undisputed in Friesland.

Jarrad Branthwaite (PSV)
The doubts that there were among the supporters of PSV were over Gerrit, who was hired from Everton and could never really become a starter there, had disappeared like snow in the sun when they saw him play a few times. Branthwaite is a no-nonsense defender and without too much card load, as he only picked up two yellow cards in 27 games. With his 1 meter 95 and relatively young age of twenty years, he could also be valuable for PSV in the future, provided they can finally get rid of him at Everton.

David Hancko (Feyenoord)
Why would you pay almost 25 million euros for a Rangers defender, while you can also scout well and pick up a Slovak international for six million euros at Sparta Prague? Bringing in Dávid Hancko must have been the transfer battle of the year. The left leg played 31 games this season in the Eredivisie, all as a basic player, and was involved in a goal on behalf of Feyenoord six times. Where Hancko was worth a few million a year ago, the Stadium Club could now ask for more than twenty million if sold.

Mees Hilgers (FC Twente)
Mees Hilgers is not a player who is in the spotlight every week. Let the 22-year-old Amersfoorter do his thing in the rear of FC Twente, the club that conceded the fewest goals in the Eredivisie this season. Hilgers came into action in 28 games, scored once and stood out mainly by not standing out. An ideal quality for a sober central defender, you would say. The top clubs in the Netherlands have also noticed this, because Hilgers is said to be on the lists in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Eindhoven.
