Mark van Bommel will not become the new head coach of AC Milan. It seems so i Rossoneri continue without coach Stefano Pioli after the current season. The coach has a contract in Italy until mid-2025, but Milan is already negotiating with a successor, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian transfer market specialist reported a week ago that the Italians will say goodbye to Pioli after the end of the current season.

Tuttosport then reported that Van Bommel would be in the picture to succeed him at Milan. Van Bommel, former Milan player and current coach of Royal Antwerp, would be nominated to take over from Pioli.

However, Romano now reports that Milan are in advanced negotiations with Julen Lopetegui to become the new head coach. The Spanish coach has set his sights on a contract with Milan, which is preferred to West Ham United and other European clubs.

After stints with the Spanish national team and Real Madrid, Lopetegui signed a contract with Sevilla in the summer of 2019, the club with which he would later win the Europa League at the expense of Internazionale.

Most recently he was at the helm of Wolverhampton Wanderers. Despite good performances, Lopetegui suddenly decided to quit last August after a disagreement with the club management the Wolves.

Milan has the rewarding task of competing for trophies again next season. With a deficit of no less than seventeen points, the national title this season had to be left to city rivals and arch-rivals Internazionale, while they were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Europa League in two matches by AS Roma.
