A bizarre one bug Twitter has resulted in the accounts of many users who tweeted ‘Memphis’ on Sunday being blocked. The outage came to light when fans of Olympique Lyon and Memphis Depay used the name in tweets and were then banned by the social medium for several hours.

“Violating our rules for posting private information. You may not post private information of other people without their express permission, ”is the message that Twitter issues as soon as the name ‘Memphis’ appears in tweets on Sunday. Accounts of users who wrote about the Olympique Lyon attacker were shown the message, only to be blocked for up to six to twelve hours. Obviously, disclosing a surname or first name does not violate Twitter’s privacy policy. When an account is accidentally suspended, any user can appeal this decision.

After noticing the phenomenon, several observant individuals joked about the mistake. Other users were tricked into prompting them to write ‘Memphis’ as well, after being asked for Depay’s first name. As a result, the number of blocked users of the platform increased even faster. Olympique Lyon also responded to the situation via the official Twitter channel by posting a photo of Depay with the text: “Hey Twitter, can we still talk about him?”

Depay played against Stade Reims on Friday-evening. For a long time it looked like Lyon would lose on a visit to the team of Kaj Sierhuis and associates, but due to a striking header by Tino Kadewere from a Depay cross, the damage was somewhat limited: 1-1. After the game, the captain of Olympique Lyon was full of misunderstanding about a yellow card he received. Depay was brought down hard by Nyasha Munetsi, but the Dutchman himself received a yellow card from referee Jérôme Brisard.
