Dani de Wit currently has to make do with AZ with a spare role and the 23-year-old midfielder does not like that. The Jong Oranje international speaks opposite The Telegraph expresses his dissatisfaction with his current role with the Alkmaarders. “Until the resignation of Arne Slot, I was one of the three players who had not missed a second, together with Teun (Koopmeiners, ed.) And Owen (Wijndal, ed.). Surely that would have had a reason? ”, De Wit wonders.

In December, De Wit suffered an ankle injury in the match against FC Groningen – the first game after Pascal Jansen took over the helm from the dismissed Arne Slot – that kept him sidelined for two and a half months. Since his return, De Wit had a basic place once: as a defensive midfielder in the 2-1 lost away match against Vitesse. The attacking midfielder had to make do with a raid in recent weeks against VVV-Venlo, Feyenoord and FC Twente.

“I immediately expected to be of value again. I have seen all the games in my absence and in my opinion it was not always great. I thought you could use my energy and drive. Then you are disappointed that you are pushed on the second plan, ”says De Wit. After the defeat in Arnhem, Jansen decided to change his starting team in one place: Tijjani Reijnders was preferred over De Wit.

“Midtsjö did not even participate. I expected to play and then today I hear that this is not the case. See: I want to provide my energy and be important to the team, like I did when I was fit. If there is a new trainer and an injury, I feel like I have to start all over again. I am very disappointed with that ”, De Wit concludes. He played 21 official matches this season, in which he scored 4 goals and 4 assists.
