José Mourinho has been fired by Tottenham Hotspur, as various English media report on Monday morning. The Portuguese coach has been with the North London club since November 2019. The news about Mourinho’s resignation has yet to be confirmed by the Tottenham club management.

Mourinho was appointed by the Tottenham board after Pochettino’s resignation, almost a year and a half ago. The start of the manager from Portugal at the Spurs was still quite energetic, although the results became less and less as the season progressed. The 2019/20 season, which was interrupted by the corona virus outbreak, closed with sixth place in the Premier League. As a result, Tottenham grabbed a ticket for the Champions League for the first time in four years. They had to do it with participation in the group stage of the Europa League.

The start of this season was quite impressive. In the fall of 2020, Tottenham even took the lead in the Premier League. In recent months, however, the results have deteriorated, which has caused Mourinho to be criticized. The management of the club now considers it necessary, with only a few league matches to go, to change course. It is not yet known which candidate the Tottenham board has in mind to succeed Mourinho.
