Tijjani Reijnders has finally completed his dream transfer to AC Milan, AZ confirms through the official channels. The 24-year-old midfielder has signed a five-year contract at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza and is said to earn €1.7 million net per year. Fabrizio Romano reported last Saturday that Milan will pay a fixed amount of 20 million euros, which can increase to an undisclosed amount through bonuses. Reijnders will play with number 14 in Italy.

The negotiations between AZ and Milan were tough, so Reijnders had to be patient for a long time. Last Saturday, an agreement was finally reached, so that only the medical examination and signatures were needed to finalize the transfer. Reijnders left for Milan on Monday afternoon to finalize the last details.

The now ex-AZ player has to deal with quite a bit of competition in the midfield of the Italians. For example, trainer Stefano Pioli has Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Tommaso Pobega, Rade Krunic and Ismaël Bennacer, among others, at his disposal, although the latter will still be out in the coming months due to a serious knee injury. In addition, a lot of work is being done on the arrival of Yunus Musah, an American midfielder from Valencia. In addition to Loftus-Cheek and Reijnders, Milan also brought in Christian Pulisic, Luka Romero and Marco Sportiello.

It has gone very fast in recent years with Reijnders, who was picked up by AZ in the summer of 2017 on a free transfer from PEC Zwolle. The right leg developed well at Jong AZ and was parked at RKC Waalwijk for six months in early 2020. In the end, Reijnders only played eight games for the team from Brabant, as the corona pandemic quickly shut down the competition completely. In the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons, the playmaker fluctuated between the bench and the base in the AFAS Stadium, but last year he finally managed to conquer his place and made an appearance in 54 games. Reijnders was good for 7 goals and 12 assists. He was still stuck in Alkmaar until mid-2027, which meant that AZ could raise the bar in terms of the transfer fee.
