Denzel Dumfries has adapted in a short time in Italy. The right wing defender played himself in the base at Internazionale after a somewhat difficult initial phase and tells at UEFA TV also learned about eating habits. “Two weeks ago they got very angry with me here for what I had on my plate,” said Dumfries.

“That was because I had combined my pasta pesto and chicken,” explains the the Dutch international. “That was an insult to the people here for pasta. I put that in my ears and will not do that anymore,” laughs the wing defender, who made the switch from PSV to Inter last summer. “When the club got in touch and I realized they were serious, I knew this was the club I wanted to go to.”

Dumfries owes a lot to PSV, where he was under contract for three seasons. “I knew that I would come to the Dutch if I went to PSV,” said the wingback, who could not win any prizes in Eindhoven. “Despite that, my game has improved there. I made my debut there in the Champions League and in the national team. And I learned a lot of things about myself on a personal level.”

Although Dumfries played in amateur football until he was eighteen, he has always had faith in his own abilities. “For me it was always clear that I would become a professional footballer, I was absolutely convinced”. As a youth player for Barendrecht, he played some exhibition games for his homeland Aruba, but he did not want to play an official game. “I’ve always wanted to play for the Dutch national team and I knew that one day I would succeed.” He has already played thirty times for the Dutch, in which he scored three times.
