Telstar booked a goal-rich victory over MVV on Tuesday evening. The White Lions were too strong in a real football fight with 5-3 the Star Bearers. MVV had gone down the rankings with a victory over Almere City FC, VVV-Venlo and FC Eindhoven, but now remains sixth. Telstar takes ninth place from Roda JC after the win over MVV.
Early in the game, Telstar seemed to take the lead in Velsen-Zuid. Christos Giousis headed the ball behind MVV goalkeeper Romain Matthys, but immediately saw the flag go up for offside. After the disallowed goal, Telstar kept pushing, but saw Matthys getting in the way every time. After twenty minutes, Giousis scored from outside the penalty area: 1-0. Telstar could not really enjoy the lead for long. Jarne Steuckers placed the ball four minutes later on the other side in the bottom right corner: 1-1.
Four minutes after the equalizer, Telstar took the lead again. This time it was Rein Smit who shot the ball against the ropes from close range with his left: 2-1. A few minutes later Smit managed to find the net again. This time, the 22-year-old attacker shot the ball in with the right on a pass from Giousis, setting the halftime score at 3-1.
Went in the second half the White Lions continue where they left off. Five minutes into the second half, Smit completed his hat-trick, again on the instructions of Giousis: 4-1. After an hour of play, Koen Kostons tapped the ball into the Telstar goal from close range: 4-2. A few minutes later, MVV even scored the tying goal. Rein van Helden placed the ball at the bottom right of the goal: 4-3. More than that was not possible for MVV. Just before time, Glynor Plet, who was only on the field for a minute, decided the final score at 5-3.
