Bayern Munich was able to save a point against FC Köln in the last minute on Tuesday evening. Julian Nagelsmann’s team did not get through ninety minutes against the mid-engine and seemed to be on its way to defeat. Joshua Kimmich prevented that in the final minute with a fabulous long shot, which entered via the underside of the crossbar: 1-1. Bayern remains in the lead, but sees RB Leipzig approach to four points. Cologne is tenth.

Matthijs de Ligt was the only the Dutch international to start in the base at Bayern, where Ryan Gravenberch came in at halftime and Daley Blind remained on the bench. Noussair Mazraoui has not been available since the competition resumed after the World Cup. The home team also started with the same line-up as against RB Leipzig (1-1). Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting was again at the forefront as a replacement for the injured Sadio Mané.

Bayern was surprised in-house by Köln, which brutally took the lead after four minutes. Former FC Groningen defender Julian Chabot headed the ball from a corner kick towards the second post, where Ellyes Skhiri was ready to tap in: 0-1. Bayern then almost exclusively had the ball and at times created opportunities for the equalizer. FC Köln goalkeeper Marvin Schwäbe, however, had an answer to a shot from Serge Gnabry after fifteen minutes and kept the visitors going just before the break by turning a corner kick from Benjamin Pavard.

Bayern itself also had to enlist the help of its goalkeeper. Yann Sommer, who replaced the injured Manuel Neuer, reacted alertly to a taper from Denis Huseinbasic. At the start of the second half, Gravenberch was brought in for Leon Goretzka. The former came close to the equalizer immediately after the break, but was unlucky that his long shot hit the post. Moments later, Kingsley Coman hit Schwäbe with a hard bang in the short corner, who made a good save. After Thomas Müller was unsuccessful with a header in the final phase, Kimmich offered a solution in the ninetieth minute. The midfielder shot the ball from a great distance hard through the bottom of the crossbar: 1-1. Coman became very dangerous with an action from the left, but the Frenchman was unlucky that his shot towards the short corner was blocked by a defender.
