Liverpool lost somewhat surprisingly to Leeds United on Saturday night: 1-2. Crysencio Summerville was the great hero of the visitors with the winning goal in the 89th minute. The home side came back from a blunder by Alisson in the early stages, but that was not enough to prevent the defeat. Due to the late blow against Leeds, with a base place for Pascal Struijk, Liverpool remains in disappointing ninth place in the Premier League.

Liverpool, with another starting place for the accurate Harvey Elliott against Ajax, had an unfortunate start at Anfield. Joe Gomez passed the ball back to Alisson from the right in the fourth minute, who half slipped and couldn’t prevent Rodrigo from scoring in front of an empty goal: 0-1. The chagrin at the home club did not last very long. Ten minutes after Alisson’s slip, Salah tied the score. A cross from the left side of the box flew over Fabinho, before landing at the Egyptian attacker. Salah scored his fourth goal of this Premier League season with a good header.

With more than twenty minutes on the clock, Liverpool got away well. Rasmus Kristensen found Brenden Aaronson with a measured cross from the right and the American midfielder was unlucky with his effort against the crossbar. In the minutes after, Alisson saved on a shot by Jack Harrison and Kristensen shot wide after a free kick for Leeds. Darwin Núñez barely made an appearance in the first half hour, although goalkeeper Illan Meslier had to save with his foot when the attacker tried to score from close range. A minute before the halftime signal, Leeds got away well when a deflected cross from Robertson flew just wide of Meslier’s goal.

For Rodrigo, who scored the opening goal at Anfield, the game was over seven minutes after the break. Manager Jesse Marsch pulled the Brazilian aside and brought in the fresh Patrick Bamford. At Leeds, Crysencio Summerville, who operates as a winger, showed much more in the second half. The former Feyenoord captain served Kristensen on a tailor-made basis, although Virgil van Dijk was there in time to prevent worse for Liverpool. The team of manager Jürgen Klopp clearly had a lot of trouble with the attacking play of the brave Leeds. Nevertheless watched the Whites with more than twenty minutes to play, they were almost behind. However, Meslier made a very skilful save on shots from , who could only charge the goalkeeper, and Jordan Henderson.

Liverpool did not settle for just a point and increased the pressure in the final phase. At Leeds there was the debut in the Premier League for eighteen-year-old attacker Wilfried Gnonto, who replaced the tired Harrison. Salah, meanwhile, did everything he could to help his team score the winning goal. However, the star player from Egypt was often unhappy in his passing and with his shots. Núñez didn’t have luck on his side either. Ten minutes before the end, the million-dollar purchase finally seemed to score, but it was the outstanding Meslier who whipped his shot from the top corner.

There were chances for both goals in the final phase. Substitute Bamford dropped the ball on Summerville’s cross, enabling Henderson to save Liverpool. Shortly afterwards, Núñez put the ball in front of Roberto Firmino, who shot too softly and could not surprise Meslier. The French keeper remained sharp until the final whistle and also managed to stop Salah from scoring four minutes before time. A minute before the end, Summerville turned out to be the hero of Leeds and the fans who had traveled with them. An attack from the left via Bamford landed on the attacker, who thoughtlessly rambled the Liverpool defense and lashed out. His shot into the far corner couldn’t be stopped by Alisson: 1-2. Summerville was ecstatic and happily took off his shirt, which landed him a yellow card. The match winner was immediately substituted at Leeds, which held out and managed to pull out a beautiful victory.
