Denzel Dumfries dropped out on Saturday evening with an apparent leg injury in the game between Internazionale and Sampdoria. The Milanese won the game convincingly 3-0 thanks to goals from Stefan de Vrij, Nicolò Barella and Joaquín Correa. Climbing through the win i Nerazzurri over AS Roma and they are fifth. Sampdoria is eighteenth and therefore has serious relegation concerns.

Inter-trainer Simone Inzaghi had basic places in house for André Onana, De Vrij and Dumfries. The latter was set up as right wing defender in a 3-5-2 formation, in which Edin Dzeko and Lautraro Martínez served as the strikers. Francesco Acerbi started on the reserve bench, while Romelu Lukaku, who was accurate in the Champions League match against Viktoria Plzen (4-0) in midweek, also had to take a seat on the bench. On the side of Sampdoria, former Heerenveen midfielder Filip Djuricic had a basic place. Among others, Jeison Murillo, who wore the shirt of Inter for two seasons, was on the bench with the team from Genoa, where Fabio Quagliarella was missing.

The first danger of the game came from Dzeko’s foot. However, the Bosnian’s shot failed to alarm Sampdoria goalkeeper Emil Audero. After Milan Skriniar headed over from a corner, De Vrij was accurate in the 21st minute. Hakan Calhanoglu painted a corner kick on the head of the Dutchman, who beat direct opponent Alex Ferrari and then convincingly headed it: 1-0. After more than half an hour, Federico Dimarco was close to making it 2-0, but his shot hit the post. Still, the home team managed to score that 2-0 before half-time. Alessandro Bastoni had a beautiful deep pass from behind to find Nicolò Barella. The technically gifted midfielder took a few steps towards goal and popped in hard with his right instep.

Shortly after the break, Martínez was close to the 3-0. The striker received a pass from Dimarco, after which the Argentinian’s shot went just wide of the right post. A minute later, fellow striker Dzeko also thought to increase the margin to three. The Bosnian turned well away from his direct opponent and his shot towards the far corner was barely saved by Audero. After an hour of play, Skriniar got his second chance of the game, but this time his header went just wide. Sampdoria had nothing to say offensively against the dominant Inter, where Lukaku replaced Martínez 25 minutes before the end. Correa was also brought in and he put in a wonderful rush from midfield in the 73rd minute, was not tackled and was devastating: 3-0. In the final phase, Dumfries had to be replaced by Raoul Bellanova, after the Dutchman suffered from an apparent leg injury.
