VfB Stuttgart won the top match in the Bundesliga against RB Leipzig on Saturday afternoon in a very convincing manner. The team of coach Sebastian Hoeness was too strong at home with 5-2. Deniz Undav became man of the match with a hat trick. Due to the victory, Stuttgart is still ten points behind number two Bayern Munich, which also won. Leipzig remains fourth, four points behind Stuttgart.

Leipzig coach Marco Rose did not have Xavi Simons at his disposal in the top match. The Dutch international had to miss the match due to a suspension. Ex-Vitessenaar Loïs Openda, on the other hand, started in the rush hour. At Stuttgart, club top scorer Serhou Guirassy was missing due to a muscle injury.

The home team had the perfect opportunity to take the lead halfway through the first half after a handball from Mohamed Simakan in their own box. Referee Sven Jablonski decided to put the ball on the spot after the intervention of the VAR, after which Enzo Millot remained cool from eleven meters: 1-0.

The margin was then doubled by Deniz Undav, who with some luck got the ball back and was then able to slide in: 2-0. Leipzig did not seem to be able to start immediately, because two minutes later the tying goal was already a fact. A corner kick from David Raum was headed in by Benjamin Sesko: 2-1.

Immediately after halftime, Stuttgart reduced the margin to two. Thanks to good preparation from Josha Vagnoman, Jamie Leweling managed to make it 3-1 from close range. There was no end to the spectacle. Openda, who played a relatively invisible match, brilliantly put Leipzig back into the match.

The striker dribbled towards the Stuttgart penalty area and scored with a beautifully placed shot: 3-2. The tension in the match was only reduced for a short time, as Undav gave Sebastian Hoeness's team a 4-2 lead in the 55th minute. He was allowed to head in completely free after a rehearsed corner kick.

The resistance of those Roten Bullen was finally broken. Match winner Undav secured the final score fifteen minutes before the end by scoring twice after a quickly taken free kick: 5-2. This completed the hat-trick for the loanee from Brighton & Hove Albion.
