Real Madrid settled with Las Palmas on Saturday. The match was extremely difficult for the club from the Spanish capital, but thanks to goals from Vinícius Júnior and Aurélien Tchouaméni they won 1-2. Striker Rodrygo was on the field for eighty minutes, but should probably have received a red card in the initial phase.
Real Madrid did not have Jude Bellingham available on Saturday afternoon. The midfielder received his fifth yellow card of the season in the hard-fought 3-2 win over Almería, with the winning goal only coming in the ninth minute of injury time, and was therefore suspended. His place was therefore taken by Brahim Díaz, while Toni Kroos, Eduardo Camavinga and Dani Ceballos were the other midfielders. There was a starting spot for Fran García at the back, which meant that Ferland Mendy started on the bench.
There was a remarkable moment early in the match. Striker Rodrygo missed a huge chance for the opening goal, after which he confronted Las Palmas goalkeeper Álvaro Valles. After Rodrygo missed the chance, he remained in the enemy box. Here he received a body check from Valles, after which the winger made himself known. Rodrygo lunged at the goalkeeper with his left arm, but did not hit him. Referee Cesar Soto Grado initially missed the moment, but eventually gave a yellow card to the Real Madrid attacker. The VAR also looked at the moment, but nothing changed in the color of the card given.
The first half was mainly characterized by one-way traffic from the away team. Antonio Rüdiger, among others, had a great opportunity, but the German defender headed wide.
Things quickly went wrong for Real Madrid in the second act. Las Palmas came out of the dressing room strong and brutally took the lead in the 53rd minute. Striker Sandro Ramírez was sent into the depth and was able to reach the penalty area of the leader. He then delivered a low cross, which was walked in by Javier Muñoz: 1-0.
After the goal, Las Palmas seemed to have decided to defend their lead and not to look for a doubling of the margin. The defensive attitude did not pay off, as Real Madrid soon came alongside. A goal by Daniel Carvajal was disallowed for offside, but moments later the goal was scored. After a nice lob pass from Camavinga, Vinícius finished: 1-1.
Eventually it would the Royal turn the game around completely. A corner kick from Kroos was headed in by substitute Tchouaméni after a good run: 1-2. The Frenchman crowned himself the match winner with his goal, as the score did not change in the remaining six minutes and injury time. With the victory, Real Madrid takes back the lead from Girona.
