Wesley Sneijder is watching this World Cup with extra attention to the performance of Cody Gakpo. The record international of the Dutch national team, 134 international matches, expects the asking price for the attacker of PSV and the Dutch to rise explosively in the event of a successful final tournament. Sneijder punctual in the conversation with The Telegraph Incidentally, there are also some points for improvement for the player who scored against Senegal at the World Cup on Monday.

“How much he will raise depends largely on this World Cup. If he puts in two or three more here, it could just be 80 million euros. That’s how it works. The World Cup is a beautiful showcase,” said Sneijder gives to Gakpo. The former midfielder urges the the Dutch international to calmly weigh his options. According to him, a winter departure from PSV is not wise: “First he has to finish this World Cup well and then show for another six months at PSV that he really stands out.”

Sneijder is impressed by Gakpo’s statistics: sixteen goals and eighteen assists for the Dutch and PSV. Still, the numbers don’t tell him everything. The former playmaker of the Dutch national team first wants to see Gakpo at work in a top competition: “With its speed and dribbling actions, the English competition, where there is a lot of space and you can receive the ball from the side, suits him best.” said Sneijder, who believes that the PSV player ‘still has to take steps’.

“He is terribly good, but not consistent enough”, the scoring international is pointed to a point for improvement. “There are also stages in the game when he’s not really there. Cody needs to get a little bolder, claim balls and open his mouth. Here I am, give me that ball, I’m going to do it for you. He just has those qualities. If you’re just a nice boy, you’re not going to make it in the absolute top.” Gakpo was linked to Manchester United and Leeds United last summer, among others. Amounts of approximately fifty million euros were circulated in the media, but that did not lead to a departure from PSV.
