There has been a stir in England again around Wayne Rooney. The Derby County manager went into a duel with Jason Knight during a training session, who suffered a serious ankle injury. According to, among others, Sky Sports The 20-year-old midfielder has been out of action for at least three months due to Rooney’s hard tackle, although Derby has not yet made any official announcements.

Knight’s injury comes at a most inopportune time for Derby. Two weeks before the start of the new season in England, the club’s squad from the Championship consists of just nine contract players, including two goalkeepers. In order to be able to complete full training sessions, Rooney invariably joins the practice sessions of the Rams. During one of the training sessions, it went wrong in a solid duel with Knight, a fixed value in Derby’s midfield last season.

Derby is according to Sky Sports in conversation with competition organizer EFL about easing the sanctions imposed on the club earlier this year. It is hoped that this will allow players to be added to the roster before taking on Huddersfield Town in the Championship on August 7. Derby was penalized for, among other things, not submitting quarterly figures on time and errors in paying tax money. Supplemented with youth players, Rooney has nineteen players and according to the regulations of the EFL, Derby can supplement the roster with a maximum of four players.

The news of the tackle on Knight follows shortly after the appearance of some remarkable photos of the former attacker on social media. The club icon of Manchester United, who has been working as a coach of Derby County for a year and a half, was photographed in a drunken state on Saturday night with some scantily clad women. Rooney claims he was ‘frauded’ and his lawyers have turned themselves in to police, who have launched an investigation into the photos. There is no reason to believe that Rooney is guilty of criminal conduct.

The photos were taken during the first weekend nightclubs were allowed to open in 15 months. The photos show that Rooney, married to his childhood sweetheart Coleen since 2008, is intimate with a woman in a nightclub, while later in the evening he ended up in a hotel room with two women. Rooney appears to have fallen asleep on a chair while the women take pictures with him. One of the photos appears to have been taken during the day, as daylight enters through the curtains.

Another photo shows Rooney holding a wine glass with a bloodied hand. A video is also circulating in which a woman apparently blows a lot of wind in front of him. Rooney’s agent, Paul Stretford, has yet to comment on the photos. According to reports in England, the women are from Barrow-in-Furness, a two-hour drive from Rooney’s home. Greater Manchester Police are investigating the photos as they may indicate criminal behavior, but not of Rooney.
