Real Madrid may have done little in the transfer area for a year, but in terms of player contracts it makes sense the Royal another blow. Dani Carvajal and Karim Benzema to sign a new contract, reports marca. Carvajal will sign until mid-2025, while Benzema will remain with Real Madrid until 2023.

29-year-old Carvajal comes from Real Madrid’s youth academy and has been a valued force in the first team since 2013. The right-back had a base in the club’s golden years, winning the Champions League four times. Over the past year, Carvajal has struggled with ongoing injuries, leaving him only able to play 15 of his club’s 51 games. In the right-back position, he competes with Lucas Vázquez, while Álvaro Odriozola can look forward to a new club.

Benzema is also going to extend his contract. The 33-year-old attacker, who was incarcerated until mid-2022, has become the most important pawn in Real Madrid’s attacking game after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo. Benzema personally had an excellent season, producing 30 goals and 9 assists in 46 club matches. In total, he stands on 279 goals and 144 decisive passes in 559 appearances for the club. Benzema was rewarded for his good game with a return to the national team of France, with which he was active at the European Championship this summer.

As a result of the corona crisis, Real has been keeping quiet on the transfer market for a year. That is why it is extra important for the club to bind its pillars longer. That was already possible with Luka Modric (until mid-2022), Vázquez (until mid-2024) and Nacho (until mid-2023). Captain Sergio Ramos did leave Real on a free transfer, for which the club obtained an equally transfer-free replacement with David Alaba. The Spanish superpower has marca with Kylian Mbappe only one transfer target: if the Paris Saint-Germain attacker proves unfeasible this summer, then Real want to sign the Frenchman after the season on a free transfer.
