Diogo Jota will not be present at the World Cup in Qatar this winter, the Portuguese knows A Bola to be confirmed on Tuesday. The Liverpool attacker has to put a line through the prestigious final tournament with his country Portugal due to a calf injury. The 25-year-old winger is normally an important link in the team of national coach Fernando Santos.
Last Sunday, Jota had to be stretched out on a stretcher in the 95th minute of the game between Liverpool and Manchester City. With Kostas Tsimikas as a replacement knew the Reds to win a 1-0 victory, but the concerns about Jota were immediately great. An MRI scan has shown that the Portuguese will not make it to the World Cup with his home country. National coach Santos would have been informed by the wing flash a day after Liverpool’s victory.
The right leg has so far played 28 caps for Portugal, in which he accounted for ten goals and eight assists. Santos loses one of his wingers with a high return. In qualifying for the final tournament in Qatar, Jota scored no fewer than five goals in seven games. Jota was acquired by Liverpool in the summer of 2020 for 45 million euros from Wolverhampton Wanderers. Since then, he has played 93 official games for the Reds, in which the Portuguese scored 34 goals and provided 14 assists. Although Jota faced a formidable competitor with the arrival of Luis Diaz in January this year, manager Jurgen Klopp still often called on him. Klopp will have to miss both wingers in the coming period. Díaz will probably not return to Anfield until 2023 due to a knee injury.
