Thibaut Courtois is not happy with his seventh place in the Ballon d’Or election. The goalkeeper did win the Lev Yashin award for best goalkeeper in the world, but is far from satisfied with the award’s voting system. The Belgian says he is not satisfied with the way in which France Football organizes the Ballon d’Or.

Opposite marca the 96-time international told his story. “It seems that scoring goals is more important than preventing them. Looking at that logic and knowing how to vote, it remains a battle to be won. I knew I had no chance of winning. I see it as a “Impossible task for a goalkeeper. It is impossible to win this prize. I don’t know if you can do more as a goalkeeper than what I did last year.”

Also opposite SPORT the closing post told its story. “You win La Liga, you win the Champions League, your team wins the final thanks to all your saves and you are only seventh…”, Courtois expressed his displeasure. The goalkeeper thought it was right that teammate Karim Benzema managed to win the prestigious prize, but feels that there is not enough recognition for other players. “There wasn’t even one defender in the top ten.”

Courtois emphasizes that he does not think he should have won the Ballon d’Or. “But I’m not even on the podium as a goalkeeper who won LaLiga and the Champions League.” Manchester City took the prize for ‘club of the year’ and the two-metre goalkeeper did not agree with that either. “We all made a strange face with the whole City thing.” The currently injured Courtois also gave an update on his physical condition. “I’ve had three or four training sessions and I’m doing better. I hope to be back on the field soon.”
