A day after the resignation of manager José Mourinho, Tottenham Hotspur has brought Michel Vorm back from the club. The former goalkeeper has been appointed as goalkeeper coach until the end of the season, the club announced via official channels on Tuesday morning. Vorm decided to end his career in October last year after his expiring contract with Tottenham was not renewed. Ryan Mason completes the season as an interim trainer.

After Vorm already put an end to his career as a footballer in the autumn of 2020, he focused fully on his social career as co-owner of a barbershop in Utrecht. In addition, he got through Ziggo Sport deployed as an analyst for Premier League games. “I have to say that it is sometimes difficult to take off the Tottenham glasses, especially when it is difficult. On the other hand, I also know that I cannot always keep those glasses on,” said Vorm in conversation with Football zone about his role as an analyst.

He also indicated that he consciously left football, as he wanted to avoid ending up in the same pattern. He therefore did not see a role as goalkeeper coach for himself, he said. “A goalkeeper coach is at least as busy as a field player. Maybe busier. If you are a goalkeeper coach, you have to go for it. Then you end up in the same world, I didn’t want that in view of my family. ” So now Vorm will come back to those words.

Vorm will become part of the completely new staff to be formed at Tottenham, as the club announced the resignation of Mourinho on Monday. Mason has been appointed as interim trainer, after acting as Mourinho’s right-hand man this season. He will be assisted by Chris Powell, who was assistant coach at ADO Den Haag, Ledley King and Nigel Gibbs in the 2019/2020 season. For Vorm it will be his first job as a member of a technical staff. He wore the Tottenham shirt for six seasons as the second goalkeeper behind Hugo Lloris.

A crucial week immediately awaits the new staff of Tottenham, as the team will play against Southampton on Wednesday evening and play the final of the EFL Cup against Manchester City on Sunday. Tottenham are currently seventh in the Premier League, five points behind West Ham United, which is number four in a Champions League spot. Of the last five league games, only one has been won by the North Londoners.
