Paris Saint-Germain won a narrow victory over Olympique Marseille on Sunday evening. In le Classique Coach Christophe Galtier’s team was 1-0 too strong thanks to a goal from Neymar. Kylian Mbappe acted as principal for the first time in the current Ligue 1 season. Thanks to the three-pointer standing le Parisiens more firmly in the lead in France, where Lorient is second with three points less and Olympique Marseille occupies fourth position.

Trainar Gaultier made several changes compared to the Champions League match with Benfica (1-1). Lionel Messi had recovered sufficiently from his calf injury and returned to base alongside Kylian Mbappe and Neymar. Sergio Ramos had to sit out a suspension, so the coach chose not to start with three but two center defenders. Due to the absence of Ramos, a place in the team became available for Fabián Ruiz.

PSG really shot off the starting blocks at the Parc des Princes, where they had already scored three hundred percent chances before the end of the fifth minute of play. First, a pass from Mbappe was extended by Neymar towards Messi, who then encountered goalkeeper Pau López. A minute later, another goal from Messi followed, but again Marseille’s closing post prevented a goal. The biggest chance of the opening phase was for Achraf Hakimi. The right back failed to give the desired follow-up to a perfect cross pass from Mbappé from close by.

After the Parisians’ whirlwind opening phase, the storm abated somewhat. l’OM was little in the scene and could only hand out a few pinpricks. For example, Amine Harit was given space to take out after a quick counter and beautiful combination football with Guendouzi, but he did not pass Gianluigi Donnarumma. A few minutes later, Nuno Tavares also contributed in vain. Messi reappeared ten minutes before half-time. The Argentinian was floored on the edge of the sixteen-meter area, after which he was allowed to build himself for a free kick. Although Messi had a great kick in the house in López, he hit the bar. Marseille was eventually allowed to thank López that the disadvantageous margin was not even greater halfway through.

The score was opened in stoppage time of the first half. After an excellent conquest in midfield, Vitinha quickly got the ball from Mbappé, who widened on Neymar. The Brazilian made it 1-0 with a watched slider in the bottom corner. Little changed in the game after the break: PSG kept looking for a hit; Marseille could only break out a few times. The hope of a positive result seemed to disappear in the 72nd minute for the visitors, who ended up with ten men. Substitute Samuel Gigot received a direct red card from referee Clément Turpin for a hard tackle on Neymar. In the final phase, PSG explicitly went looking for the second goal, but it was no longer found.
