AC Milan booked a very important victory on Sunday evening. On a visit to Hellas Verona, the team of coach Stefano Pioli had a very difficult time, but managed to win it thanks to a late goal by Sandro Tonali: 1-2. Milan rises to third place in Serie A with the win, while Hellas is in the danger zone and is eighteenth.
At Hellas, former Groningen attacker Ajdin Hrustic started in the base. Together with Simone Verdi, the Australian had to provide the supply to striker Thomas Henry. At Milan, Pioli opted for a slightly more attacking approach than in the Champions League match with Chelsea (0-2 defeat). That meant Ishmael Bennacer was sacrificed for Yacine Adli. Two minutes later, the goal fell on the other side. After the home team lost the ball, Olivier Giroud picked up the ball, after which Rafael Leão was gone on the left. His cross in front of the goal was touched by Miguel Veloso, who saw the ball end up behind his goalkeeper: 0-1. There was also an own goal on the other side. A very nice heel from Fabio Depaoli ended up at Koray Günter, whose shot towards the long corner was saved by Matteo Gabbia into the short corner. Günter was credited with the goal.

Ten minutes after the break, Hellas had two huge chances. A cross from Veloso reached the head for Roberto Piccoli, who hit the crossbar hard. In the rebound, Günter was close to his second of the evening, but the German saw his shot fly over the goal. Milan had a hard time with the stiff Hellas, so substitute Divock Origi tried it from a distance. The Belgian’s shot just flew past the post. Two minutes later it was hit for the reigning national champion. Ante Rebic had a lot of freedom on the right and found the uncovered Tonali, who finished with the left through the legs of goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipo: 1-2. On the other side, Piccoli was close to a point with a shot that went over and an effort that was blocked just in front of goal.
