It was Saturday afternoon enjoying Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea. The Londoners were 7-0 too strong for closing in on Norwich Ctiy at home and now have a gap of two points to pursuer Manchester City and four to Liverpool, which will play the top game against Manchester United on Sunday. Big man on Chelsea’s side was Mason Mount. The midfielder claimed a hat-trick and thus completed the horror afternoon for Tim Krul.

With his three goals, Mount became the twentieth player in Chelsea club history to have a hat-trick. Only Arsenal had more different hat-trick makers in the Premier League: 21 pieces. “He’s a fantastic boy and a very important player,” Tuchel praised Mount. “You can see this in the minutes and the position where he plays. He’s always in the right place. Mount is in the right moment of his career right now, he could be a really big player for Chelsea. I wouldn’t know why not.”

And yet Chelsea failed to renew with the England international. Mount still has a contract until mid-2024 and both parties want to continue with each other, but a breakthrough has not yet been made. “I don’t participate in those kinds of conversations,” Tuchel continues. “It’s conversations between Mason and the club. That’s just not my job, you know my opinion very well. He’s a Chelsea boy, comes from the youth academy. That’s why it’s super important to have guys like Mason who are always positive are always in the right spirit and always ready to improve, looking for responsibility and coming to training with the right attitude.”

Van Hintum lyrical: “One of the best players Vitesse has ever had”

Mount was certainly not the only one to assert himself against Norwich. Chelsea really put on a gala performance and only took the visitors’ first shot after 36 minutes (!). In addition to Mount, Callum Hudson-Odoi also made his first of the season. Never before have four different English players scored in one game for Tuchel’s side. “I like the mix we have. The best players from abroad and the best boys from the youth academy”, concludes the German coach proudly.
