Marco Bizot did himself a disservice on Sunday regarding his European Championship chances. The Stade Brest goalkeeper made a horrible mistake in the match against Stade Rennes, giving his team a goal. In the end, this did not break Brest: after an insane match the score ended up being 4-5 in Roazhan Park.

Bizot is one of the goalkeepers who can hope for a place in Ronald Koeman's European Championship selection. Due to his good form this season, he was part of the goalkeeper trio at the Dutch team during the last international match.

Although this may also have had to do with the injury of Feyenoord player Justin Bijlow, Bizot's chances of winning a European Championship now seem to have really shrunk. The single international was horribly wrong on a counter goal on Sunday.

With the score 1-0 in the ninth minute, Rennes midfielder Désiré Doué crossed the ball into the opposing penalty area. There Bizot dived towards the object, but made a complete mistake. The ball therefore remained for Arnaud Kalimuendo, who was able to tap in in front of an empty goal.

Bizot could kick himself, also with a view to the rankings. Brest is still in the race for Champions League football. Les Pirates were still third before Sunday, good for direct qualification for the billion dollar ball. Fourth place, the new ranking in the event of a defeat, 'only' entitles you to the third preliminary round.

It may have been a plaster on the wounds: Bizot's colleague on the other side also made the mistake a little later. Rennes goalie Steve Mandanda hit a cross straight into the feet of Steve Mounié, who then caromed the ball into the net. That meant a turning point for Brest. In the nine minutes after the break, Eric Roy's team turned things around completely.

Brest was helped in the saddle by Rennes defender Warmed Omari, who put the ball behind his own goalkeeper with a cross. Moments later, Martín Satriano took the lead. Mahdi Camara's 2-4 – a beautiful volley – seemed to be enough for Brest, but nothing could be further from the truth. Arthur Theate quickly scored the tying goal, after which Martin Terrier seemed to secure a point for Rennes with a smart reaction to a free kick.

Yet Brest still walked away with the victory. The sixth minute of extra time had now arrived, when Lilian Brassier pushed the ball against the ropes. This leaves Brest third, two points behind number two AS Monaco. There are still seven rounds to go in Ligue 1.
