Latest update:

Manchester City took an important step towards the English league title on Sunday. The only thing that mattered to the the Citizens was a victory, and it came: 0-2 when they visited Nottingham Forest. As a result, City does what it can and comes within one point of leader Arsenal. However, Pep Guardiola's team still has a game in hand.

Just before kick-off in Nottingham the Citizens because Arsenal had gone all out when they visited Tottenham Hotspur. As a result, the competitor was four points clear of City, and they had to win at the City Ground. As usual, Guardiola started that quest with Nathan Aké kicking off. The Dutchman formed a defensive center with Manuel Akanji.

However, it was another fellow defender who became a goldcrest. Josko Gvardiol was his name: the Croat headed decisively from Kevin De Bruyne's corner after half an hour of play. Before that, City had created little. The biggest chances even came from the Nottingham side.

Chris Wood in particular was given numerous opportunities, but did not have his sights set straight. As a result, the teams went to halftime with a 0-1 score. Even after the break, it was Forest that dominated, causing Guardiola to feel compelled to intervene. Erling Braut Haaland, who had until then had to watch from the bench, was brought on in place of Jack Grealish.

The Norwegian needed exactly nine minutes to make his mark. Haaland got the ball in De Bruyne's point, passed a man and placed Sels in the far corner behind Matz: 0-2. That was not only Haaland's 21st league goal this season, but also the final blow for Forrest. The Tricky Trees didn't believe in it anymore after that, so the match fizzled out.

Manchester City thus has 79 points after 34 matches played. Although Arsenal is at 80, they have played one more game. Number three Liverpool, outsiders for the title, has collected 75 points from 35 matches so far. Manchester City also lost Ederson with an injury.
