Martín Dubravka returns to Newcastle United after four months, the number three in the Premier League announced on Sunday. The 33-year-old goalkeeper was taken over on a rental basis by Manchester United on September 1, Deadline Day, with an option to buy around six million euros with a certain number of games played. After a few months, however, manager Erik ten Hag is waving goodbye to the experienced goalkeeper, as his employer has immediately stopped the rental period.

Manchester United thank Dubravka in a short message on the website for his contribution and wish him well for the future. Newcastle United reports that the Slovak veteran will compete with first choice Nick Pope, who managed to keep a clean sheet for the ninth time this season against Leeds United (0-0) on Saturday. Dubravka has made 130 appearances so far the Magpies. He was rented from Sparta Prague in January 2018 and was later brought in for four million euros. In the 2019/20 season, the goalkeeper was named Player of the Year.

Dubravka said after signing the lease with Manchester United about ‘a very special moment in his career’. However, the rented goalkeeper barely got the chance to prove himself under Ten Hag. Dubravka only played in two games in the EFL Cup: against Aston Villa (4-2 win) and Burnley (2-0 win). In the Premier League and Europa League, there was no playing time for the reserve keeper, who had to tolerate David De Gea at Old Trafford. In addition, there was competition from Tom Heaton, which sometimes even made Dubravka third choice.
