Latest update:

Leicester City is the first Championship club to be guaranteed Premier League football. Due to Leeds United's big loss at Queens Park Rangers (4-0), promotion can no longer escape Enzo Maresca's team.

Two teams are promoted directly from the Championship, after which a third team follows after promotion play-offs. Leeds, the current number two in the Championship, has 90 points after 45 matches.

Leicester City, having played one game less, already collected 94 points. Leeds can no longer overtake the team, and number three (Ipswich Town, 89 points, 43 games) can no longer overtake Leicester.

That is why Leicester returns to the highest level after only one year. Leeds must battle it out with Ipswich Town, among others, to see who grabs the second ticket for direct promotion. In theory, Southampton (44 games, 84 points) also has a chance of finishing second, but that chance is not great.

QPR did not leave much to Leeds on Friday evening. Daniel Farke's team was blown off the field by goals from former Ajax player Lucas Andersen, Ilias Chair, Lyndon Dykes and Sam Field.

Thanks to Leeds' misstep, Ipswich Town has the best credentials to reach Premier League football. That would be the first time since the 2001/02 season, when the team was last active at the highest level in England.

In the Premier League, Sheffield United no longer seems to be able to avoid relegation. Luton Town and Burnley are currently below the relegation zone, while Nottingham Forest still has to fear the worst.
