It seems only a matter of time before Jorge Sánchez is presented as Ajax’s newest addition. In the night from Saturday to Sunday, Club América came via Twitter with an official statement in which it confirmed that it had an agreement with the team from Amsterdam. Only the medical examination separates the right back from a multi-year contract with Ajax. Sánchez serves with the reigning champion as the successor to Noussair Mazraoui who left for Bayern Munich.

The transfer of Sanchez is no longer a surprise. The team from Amsterdam pay a fixed transfer fee of five million euros for the 24-year-old right back. In addition, the Mexican club can earn another five hundred thousand euros in bonuses from Sánchez. “Club America reports that it has reached an agreement on the definitive transfer of Jorge Sanchez to Ajax,” the official statement reads. “The player will travel to the Netherlands today (Sunday, ed.) to perform the corresponding physical tests. The contract between the two clubs will then be signed.”

Sánchez serves as Mazraoui’s successor and as a competitor to Devyne Rensch. The latter started on Saturday in the 2-3 away match against Fortuna Sittard and was even accurate. However, it is expected that he will have to make way if Sánchez is officially presented at Ajax. Club América will hope that Sánchez develops well in Amsterdam in the coming years, as that can yield some extra financially. The Mexicans managed to negotiate a resale percentage in the negotiations.

Sánchez has been dreaming of playing in a top competition in Europe for years and was eager to make the switch to Ajax. Next week he will definitely start his desired adventure. The right-back has played 150 official games for Club América so far, scoring twice and providing eight assists. In 2019, Sánchez made his debut for the Mexico national team, for which he played 21 caps so far. In that, the defender was accurate once. Sánchez is originally a right back, but can also play on the left wing.
