Jorge Sampaoli has spoken positively about his opponent in the run-up to the duel with Feyenoord. The coach of Olympique Marseille indicates that he is very impressed by Feyenoord’s game and praises trainer Arne Slot. On Thursday evening, the first game in the context of the semifinals of the Conference League will take place in De Kuip, after which it will be clear next week in Marseille who can go to the final of the tournament.

The trainer of the Southern French is wary of Feyenoord. “This team plays with a lot of variation, can switch quickly and has players who are strong offensively”, sums up the Argentinian. “That means this will be a high level game and we will be forced to play well too. It will be a big challenge.” According to Sampaoli, Feyenoord’s good game is largely due to Slot, whom he thinks highly of.

“I really enjoy how his teams play,” said Sampaoli at his press moment in Rotterdam. “This coach loves football; his teams play attacking and with a lot of intensity. We have to be careful.” With this, 64-year-old Sampaoli is responding to a praise he just received from Slot. “It is very clever and absurd that they can play in so many different systems,” the Feyenoord coach said earlier. “I followed Sampaoli maybe ten years ago. He led Chile, who played incredibly beautiful and attacking football.”

Sampaoli sees a danger in the game of the Rotterdam team. “Feyenoord is putting a lot of pressure on us, we should not be confused by that,” Sampaoli warns his team. “The key in this game is that we have to get the ball back as soon as possible if we lose it. Although that will not be easy, because Feyenoord, like us, has the quality to hold the ball and create opportunities from there.”
