Ronald Koeman responded to statements by Kenny Tete during a press conference. The Fulham right back said he disagreed with the fact that he was not part of the final selection of the the Dutch and also said that he feels that his balls are being played. Koeman’s answer was particularly fierce.

Tete was in the pre-selection for the European Championship qualifiers against France and Gibraltar, but did not survive the final selection. The right back reacted disappointed to that. “I haven’t been there for two years, then you secretly hope that you are now. Then you feel, roughly speaking, as if you are being played with balls. If I’m not there, you can might as well not put me in the pre-selection, right?”

Koeman was asked about those words at the press conference. “I have not seen or read it, but if Tete should not criticize someone, that is me”, the national coach reacts remarkably fiercely. “I think he was always in the picture apart from his injuries in the previous period and he was now again because he has been playing every weekend for a long time. In the end the choice falls on someone else, because there are others who are in that position can play really well.”

After the international match, the national coach of the Dutch national team will come back to the incident. “I’m not that resentful, because everyone can say what they think within a certain framework, but maybe I’ll call him after this period to see how he stands. As far as I’m concerned, it’s like it or not.” The next international period for the the Dutch squad is in June, when the Nations League is played.
