Ajax will most likely announce the appointment of Julian Ward as the new technical director this week. That write it General Journal and the DailyMirror. The Englishman comes over from Liverpool and has to put together a selection that will take the title next season and can score high in the Champions League.

Ajax has been looking for a permanent successor to Marc Overmars for some time, who resigned in February 2022 due to transgressive behavior. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Gerry Hamstra performed the honors and now white smoke about a permanent appointment does not seem far away. According to the Mirror and the AD there is hope that it will be possible to communicate about Ward’s appointment this week. After all, the negotiations are in the final phase.

Ward, who is currently still working at Liverpool and was responsible for, among other things, bringing in Cody Gakpo last winter, wanted to work at Ajax and so both parties always had the intention to get out during the talks. The 41-year-old Englishman is instructed to thoroughly go through the current selection and to put together a group of players for next season that can fulfill the national and international goals of the Amsterdam club.

Ward has had major transfers to his name in his time at Liverpool. Fabinho, Darwin Núñez, Diogo Jota, Luis Díaz and thus Gakpo, among others, came to Anfield on his intercession. The Englishman, who speaks several languages, also has experience as a scout. Ward indicated to the Liverpool club management in November that he wanted to look for another challenge. According to The Telegraph that message hit the board hard the Reds.
